Teddy Daniels (Shutter Island)

The most important character development for Teddy is the lighthouse scene. This is the scene where everything comes together. We learn who Teddy is and he learns as well. The doctor explains to Teddy who he really is. He doesn't want to believe the doctor but eventually gets flashbacks and believes him.

In this scene Teddy is looking for his partner in the lighthouse. He gets to the top floor and finds the doctor sitting in the chair behind a desk. The doctor explains to him that he is a patient at this mental hospital and has been there for years. Teddy does not believe him and shoots him but the gun is a fake. His partner shows up and along with the doctor explains that he is actually Teddy's psychiatrist and Teddy freaks out and gets hallucinations about his dead wife and passes out.

When Teddy wakes up he has come to the realization of who he actually is. He now knows that he killed his wife and has been denying it and created another character of which he played where he is the good guy that did not kill his wife. Teddy Daniels was actually who he made up and thought he was. His real name is Andrew Laeddis who he believed was the bad guy he was looking for on this island. He came to finally realize that he is Andrew and everyone believed he was cured but then his mind went screwy again and he once again was Teddy Daniels.
